About the Hot Meal Program

• The "Hot Meal" Program is being implemented for the 20th consecutive year. It was launched in 2004 and has so far provided free food to a total of 23 845 needy children across the country. The financial resources necessary for its implementation are provided through joint charity campaigns of the partners of the BRC Charity Partnership Network. The funds donated so far are BGN 3 848 994 (1 ,700,000 lunches).

• The main goal is to support disadvantaged students and their parents. Very often the free hot meal that these children receive every day during the school year in the dining rooms of the Bulgarian Red Cross is the only reason for them to attend classes.

• The Program contributes to the normal physical development of adolescents, reduces morbidity among them, resulting from irregular and poor nutrition. On average, about 12,000 children drop out of school each year due to social reasons. They need food, care and attention throughout the school year.

• The Hot Meal Program has been around for 20 years. During the school year 2023/2024, for the 20th consecutive year, 1 755 needy children from all over the country will receive a free hot lunch every school day in the winter months.
