Six ICRC staff members were killed in Afghanistan
"February 8, 2017 – a sorrowful day as the International Movement of Red Cross and Red Crescent lost colleagues, friends and volunteers who gave their lives to help others.
The Bulgarian Red Cross is shocked by the killings of six employees of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Afghanistan and staff of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent in Syria. We express our deepest sympathy with the pain of their families, relatives and friends.
Our thoughts are with the two colleagues from the International Committee who are unaccounted for in Afghanistan and with those injured and recovering from the attack in the center for aid distribution in Syria. Our full support and hopes are with them!
The Bulgarian Red Cross reminds that the protection of humanitarian workers is an obligation under international humanitarian law. State and non-State actors must respect and protect humanitarian workers."
