International support for the BRC efforts to prevent violation of the Geneva Conventions
In connection with the illegal registration of the Bulgarian Red Crescent, which appears a rough violation of international and local legislation
In connection with the illegal registration of the Bulgarian Red Crescent, which appears a rough violation of international and local legislation, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC/RC) has sent a verbale note to the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Bulgaria to the United Nations Office in Geneva.
In a letter to the chairman of BRC Hristo Grigorov and the Director General Dr. Sofia Stoimenova is said that under the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and their Additional Protocols of 1977, the Statute of the International Movement of Red Cross and Red Crescent, the Statute of the Bulgarian Red Cross and local legislation on the territory of any State, there can be only one National Society of the Red Cross or Red Crescent.
IFRC/RC will carefully monitor the actions taken to prevent the creation of the new Society which actually represents a misuse of the emblem and should be subject of the immediate measures by the court.
