Red Cross is ready to assist victims in Ohrid
On 5 September this year 55 Bulgarian tourists traveling by ship Ilinden in the Ohrid lake had an accident in which 15 people died.
At the same time near the site of the tragedy were Red Cross members from Lovech and Gabrovo who immediately offered its assistance to the Macedonian Red Cross Branch in Ohrid for providing first psychological aid to victims. BRC immediately came into contact with the Bulgarian authorities, Macedonian Red Cross and IFRC – Zone Europe. A team of experts ready to provide first psychological aid to survivors and relatives of dead people has formed. Ready to help are in BRC - Plovdiv region, where the telephone of confidence - 032/61 51 - is available.
The management of BRC received an official letter of sympathy by Mrs. Anita Underlin - head of the IFRC Europe Zone Office in Budapest. "I would like to assure you that the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and in particular Europe Zone Office in Budapest remains committed to support the Bulgarian Red Cross Society to provide humanitarian assistance to those affected by this tragic event, and provide help to the leadership, staff and volunteers of the Bulgarian Red Cross Society in its work to deliver assistance to the affected families in need. " it said in the letter.
