BRC held its second workshop on the project Self-protection of Children, funded by the European Commission and implemented by the French Red Cross in partnership with Red Cross National Societies of Belgium, Bulgaria and Finland, Paris V University, Ministry of Sustainable Development and the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of France. The meeting, opened by the Director General of the Bulgarian Red Cross - Dr. Sofia Stoimenova, was attended by representatives from all project partners. From the Bulgarian site representatives were experts from the International Cooperation Department, Bulgarian Red Cross Youth Department and Disaster Preparadness and Disaster Response Department of the BRC, Mrs. Gergina Sutinaska, Mrs. Huba Petrova and Mrs. Gloria Stoyanova from the National Service for Civil Protection General Directorate.
The main objective of the project, which started on April 1, 2009, is to develop the interaction between the different generations to cope in situations of risk. Target groups are children from 8 to 12 years, their parents and mentors. The aim of the two-year project is to make a Manual for facilitating communication between adults and children on situations of disasters and catastrophes.
