The Bulgarian Red Cross is continuing its work delivering aid and personal support to tens of thousands of people hit by the pandemic. Over six months, Bulgarian Red Cross is rolling out a widespread program with the support of a 690 473.55 BGN package from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
The work includes:
- Distribution of personal hygiene kits to 30 000 vulnerable people affected by COVID-19
- Distribution of information materials about prevention measures and accessing Bulgarian Red Cross support
- Distribution of activity kits to 2 500 vulnerable children to support their safe return to school
- Hygiene promotion mainly in Roma communities most affected by the COVID-19 crisis living in dense urban neighborhoods, areas with identified COVID-19 cases and in areas affected by poverty, poor education, hygiene and the ongoing rise of cluster infection, in cooperation with the National Network of Health Mediators.
- Establishing a telephone hotline and an online chat service as part of a Virtual Centre for Psychosocial Support giving access to psychologists and referrals for further support
- Expanding life skills training for children and young people under additional stress
"The Bulgarian Red Cross will help over 30,000 people in need, living in a socially vulnerable situation as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Bulgarian Red Cross President Acad. Hristo Grigorov said.
“We are grateful for the support of the IFRC and USAID. It will mean Bulgarian Red Cross can help Bulgarian society by delivering essential hygiene materials and information, as well as providing psychosocial support and direct psychological help. It will also contribute to our better preparation in case of future similar crises,” added President Grigorov.
