Water injury

Every year, about 500,000 people die from drowning in the world. For Bulgaria, this number is about 160 people, nearly 30% of them are children under 17. The greater number of drownings - 75-80%, occur in reservoirs in the interior of the country, which are not guarded by rescuers.
This large percentage is mainly due to the poor swimming training of the population and especially children, due to the abolition of compulsory swimming training for primary school students, the declining number of operating swimming pools in the country and low water rescue culture.
The analysis of each drowning shows that in most cases this is due to an unfortunate coincidence of circumstances that could have been avoided. This leads to the conclusion that any death by drowning is absurd.
Society finds it especially painful when water takes the lives of children, but at the same time too little is done to prevent water injuries.

THE THREE MAIN CAUSES OF DROWNING ARE:
  • Ignorance of the dangers of bathing and swimming.
  • Ignorance and inability to get out of dangerous situations that have arisen in the water.
  • Ignorance of how to help a person who is drowning.
