Health Education
Health promotion is a process giving people and society the opportunity to enhance control over health determinants thus strengthening their health. The efforts of the organization in 2010 aimed at providing the society with health knowledge and skills in order to motivate individual choice of healthy behavior models.
On a national and regional level, the attention was focused on promotion and prevention activities regarding the harm of smoking, alcohol and drug abuse, irrational nutrition, indiscriminate sexual activity and other activities, which may lead to serious diseases.
The activities, organized by the regional BRC organizations were selected on the basis of regional specifics and the interests of people. The BRC Youth volunteers actively worked with the target groups - young people in educational and social institutions, as well as minority groups and groups at risk.
The good cooperation with various electronic and printed media at all levels contributed to promotion of different initiatives marking World Days, such as the World Day of Health, World AIDS Day, World First Aid Day, World No Tobacco Day, World Blood Donor Day and others.

Health clubs
In 2010 the BRCs organizations around the country organized 3 069 health education initiatives (3 260 in 2009). Lectures and discussions with famous health specialists, youth health lectures and quizzes became traditional forms of the activity, carried out in 149 BRC health clubs in the country. In those health education centers people can receive response and advice on different health issues or check their blood pressure. During 2010 good activity was carried out by the health clubs in Stara Zagora, Yambol, Burgas, Gabrovo, Sofia, etc.
For the International Nurses Day, 12 of May, the BRC introduced a special award for medical nurses with exceptional professionalism in their work, with proven humanism while carrying our other important activities for public benefit. This competition is organized jointly with the Bulgarian Association of Healthcare Professionals, an active long-standing partner of the BRC.
