The world is Ours. You are on the move

WORLD CAMPAIGN OF THE RED CROSS AND THE RED CRIMINAL “THE WORLD IS OURS. YOU ARE ON THE GO. ”

It's time for action!

"Hope. Something we talk about all the time, but what does it mean? For the Red Cross, hope is an action. An action to protect those who need help today. An action to protect people tomorrow. In 2009. The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which unites 186 countries around the world, has launched a global campaign to speak the same language with the message: "The world is ours. You're on the move! "The time for action has come."
Bekele Geleta, gen. Secretary of the IFRC / PE

Ten years after the "Power of Humanity" campaign "The world is ours. You are on the move." appears as a general call for action by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the entire Red Cross movement. The aim of the campaign is to involve society to the greatest extent in supporting and improving the lives of vulnerable people. The three-year campaign (2009-2011) goes beyond the three anniversaries in the history of the International Red Cross, which we will celebrate in 2009 - 150 years since the Battle of Solferino, 90 years since the founding of the ICRC and 60 years since the signing of the Geneva conventions and their Additional Protocols. This is an opportunity for the Movement to unite its forces around the leading humanitarian challenges of our time and to encourage everyone to do a good deed, to "give their course" to make the world a better place to live. The campaign will remind that the Red Cross movement is more than a gathering of national societies and governing bodies - together we are the world's largest humanitarian network and the Red Cross needs to strengthen its role as a partner of society and social structures. The current campaign aims to promote a culture of prevention. By investing in prevention, we will give people the tools they need to protect their families and their future. By focusing on planning instead of seeking responsibility, we will show the world how disasters and epidemics can be reduced and crises avoided. Today, the Red Cross is forced to act and pursue its mission in a changed environment. Modernity offers new humanitarian challenges to the followers of Henri Dunant. The campaign defines these new humanitarian challenges and calls on people to join the humanitarian idea, to rediscover Solferino Today.

Key messages of the campaign:
  • Everyone can contribute to make the world a better place;
  • The Red Cross is a movement with a network of millions of volunteers;
  • One movement can change the world;
  • The Red Cross is ready;
  • Small actions - big changes.

Global priorities:
At the global level, the campaign focuses on the culture of prevention as the most effective way to save lives and improve the quality of life of vulnerable groups against the background of growing crises related to climate change, economy, epidemics, violence and more. The campaign has the ambition to provide better protection for people during wars by effectively enforcing the norms of international humanitarian law.

Priorities of national companies:
The National Societies of the Red Cross and Red Crescent set their own priorities to direct their "moves" to make our world better. The ICRC sets some of the leading humanitarian challenges facing the organization in the 21st century. These include: access to food and water, volunteering, adapting to climate change in the face of humanitarian consequences, changing public attitudes to prevent violence and discrimination, providing access to health care, first aid, reuniting families separated by time of armed conflicts, prevention of socially significant diseases - malaria, HIV / AIDS, tuberculosis, etc. Based on the global platform of the campaign "The world is ours. You are on the move! ”, The national companies run their own campaigns, which start on May 8, 2009. Thanks to the established strategic partnership with the international communication company McCann, the national companies follow a common vision, which they adapt. They attract celebrities and their own partners and sponsors to support their initiatives.

Initiatives within the 2009 campaign:
  • 90 years since the establishment of the IFRC / PE in Paris:
The French Red Cross will host a meeting of the IFRC's Governing Board in May 2009, when a special commemorative ceremony will be held, accompanied by a discussion on Solferino Today.
  • 150 years since the Battle of Solferino
From June 23-27, 2009, the Italian Red Cross will organize a large-scale global event in Solferino under the motto "Let's do more. Let's do it better. Let's go further. " Thousands of volunteers, young people, employees and world-famous personalities will take part in the spectacular event to mark the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Solferino. It is aimed at the youth organizations of the national societies of the Red Cross and Red Crescent. The so-called "humanitarian village" will be built - representatives of the youth structures of 186 national societies of the Red Cross and Red Crescent will gather and form a kind of tent camp. The Third World Meeting of Youth Red Cross Organizations will also take place there. The participants in the event will organize a mourning procession with candles, which will cross the Italian border and continue to Geneva. A series of seminars on priority topics for the youth movement is forthcoming. The Young Red Cross will also take part in a charity concert with the support of world-famous artists to raise funds for humanitarian causes.
  • Closing meeting
The final event for 2009 will bring together representatives of all national societies of the Red Cross and Red Crescent in Nairobi, where will be presented the initiatives conducted in the framework of national campaigns "The world is ours. You are on the move!" There will be a discussion on "Solferino Today" and a debate of representatives of youth organizations of national societies. Make your move to the campaign's official Internet portal: www.ourworld-yourmove.org

The ICRC, in partnership with McCann, has set up a dedicated web portal for the campaign. Each national company can join by describing its initiatives within the campaign. The site depicts the globe in the form of a puzzle, parts of which are mixed up. The idea is to work together to "clean up" our shuffled planet and make it a better place to live. Anyone who wants to join the campaign can do so by registering at www.ourworld-yourmove.org , describe in a few sentences the good deed he has done and move one of the pieces of the puzzle, so in reality and in cyberspace he will declare his move and join the Red Cross cause. The system automatically sends a link to itself to all recipients in the mailbox of the last user of the site.
