Project "Assistance, Support and Implementation" work in the COVID-19 state of emergency

The National Training Center of the Bulgarian Red Cross - Lozen is currently implementing the project "Assistance, Support and Implementation" under the Operational Program "Human Resources Development" 2014-2020. The project was created and aimed at people with disabilities "People with hearing impairments (PE) and their families.

The maturity of a society is judged by its attitude towards its most vulnerable members. The project develops activities that purposefully support people with hearing impairments with practical solutions to specific problems.

For the period of the state of emergency from 13.03 to 13.04.2020. in the created online platforms, help and support have sought and received over 300 people with disabilities and their families. The daily processed questions and explanations by the project consultants - two social-administrative experts, a sign language interpreter and a lawyer, are over 50 registered inclusions.

The pandemic has raised even more serious issues related to obtaining accurate and timely information. Every day the project team prepares materials with the latest data on the damage from the virus, symptoms, ways of quarantine, new rules and regulations for the movement and use of protective equipment in public places, communication with medical personnel. This necessitated appropriate training with the use of very visual material and films, as well as individual conversations. There is interest in online platforms and the number of beneficiaries is increasing every day. Many people are in dire need of accurate and timely information on the problems of a particular group - people with hearing impairments. There was also a need for psychological support in connection with fears of illness, isolation, lack of information, uncertainty, fake news. Hearing impaired people are vulnerable to communication problems, as a result of which they often fall victim to attempted fraud.

Many people who are not direct participants in the project also have access to the real-time online consultations. The project team does not refuse help, efforts are focused on supporting all those who sought information and support.
