- Hot Meal Programme of BRC has been implemented for 22 years. Started in 2004 up to now it has provided free lunches at school, for 27 115 needy children from all over the country (orphans, semi orphans, from poor families, with single parents, with one or both unemployed parents, etc.). Funds, needed for its implementation are provided through joint charity campaigns with partner organizations from Care Partners Network of BRC. The donated funds until now are 4 619 037 BGN (2 000 000 lunches).
The Programme contributes for the normal physical development of the children, helps to reduce their morbidity due to improper feeding. Each year thousands of children drop from school due to the social reasons. Thanks to this Programme we manage to bring them back to school.
The Bulgarian Red Cross's "Hot Lunch" program has a 22-year history and proven sustainability in supporting children in need. Within the framework of the initiative, children not only receive food, but also feel accepted and equal with their peers. During the 2025/2026 school year, 1,670 needy children from across the country will receive a free hot lunch every school day during the winter months. These children need food, care, and attention throughout the school year in order to develop fully and attend school regularly.
The "Hot Lunch" program helps retain children in the education system, creates a sense of security and support, and helps them feel equal and motivated.
