Guidelines of the SJC

The Water Rescue Service of the Bulgarian Red Cross was established in 1964.
Its main goal is to reduce water injuries in the country. In this regard, the SJC unites and coordinates the activities of organizations and structures working for the protection of human life in case of water incidents.
Thanks to the efforts of the Water Rescue Service at the Bulgarian Red Cross, our country is one of the few countries with state regulations on water rescue activities.

The guidelines for the work of the SJC are :

  • Increasing the knowledge and skills of citizens to provide assistance and self-help in case of water accidents in order to prevent drowning.

  • Training of lifeguards and other specialists working in the water rescue chain - doctors, nurses, scuba divers, boat leaders, instructors and others.

  • Providing methodological assistance in the creation and operation of water rescue posts near water areas.

  • Logistical support in case of floods in support of state structures.

  • Sports and competitive activities.
