The training courses are conducted in accordance with the "Instruction for organizing courses for lifeguards", approved by the National Council of the Bulgarian Red Cross with decision № 9, protocol № 1 of 25.01.2008. SG, issue 87 of 29.09.1995) and the Ordinance on water rescue and protection of water areas (adopted by Decree № 182 of the Council of Ministers of 24.07.1996, promulgated in SG, issue 65 of 31.07.1996 d.).
 
The Water Rescue Service at the Bulgarian Red Cross conducts courses for the following qualification degrees:

• Young Savior - without the right to work

• Water lifeguard for swimming pools and water parks - entitles to professional work in swimming pools and water parks

• Water rescuer of open water areas and the sea - entitles to professional work on sea beaches and open water beaches in the interior of the country

• Senior Rescuer - entitles to professional work as a rescue station manager

• Instructor - gives the right to conduct theoretical and practical classes in the courses for "Young lifeguard", "Water lifeguard in swimming pools and water parks", "Water lifeguard in open water areas and the sea"

The certification of the personal card is required upon entry to work for the lifeguards of the qualification degree "Water lifeguard of swimming pools and water parks" and "Water lifeguard of open water areas and the sea" and is held annually.

Courses and certifications are organized and conducted by the Regional Councils of the Bulgarian Red Cross throughout the country
