Dispatch station services for serving people with reduced mobility

Since June 1, 2007, the Bulgarian Red Cross has taken over the management of the dispatching station services for serving people with reduced mobility in the railway stations of the cities of Sofia /Central Station/ , Plovdiv /Central Station /, Stara Zagora, Burgas and Varna . The services are equipped with comfortable waiting rooms for the disabled and with specially adapted sanitary facilities, equipped with devices and amenities for self-service.

Pre-trained staff ensures the safe and secure movement of people with disabilities on the platforms and in specialized passenger carriages. Passengers with mobility problems wishing to use the service must contact the station staff when purchasing a train ticket and submit a request for transportation at the services themselves or by calling the following numbers:
• Sofia Train Station - 0882 40 24 11; 0884 65 69 87;
• Plovdiv Railway Station – 0879 98 68 44;
• Stara Zagora Train Station – 0886 07 90 60;
• Burgas Train Station – 056 84 57 17; 0892 22 91 64;
• Varna Railway Station – 0885 22 54 14.
The request for transportation is submitted as follows:
- two working days before the trip - for trains whose trains include specialized wagons on a daily basis;
- three working days before the trip – for trains in whose trains, given the accepted request, a specialized wagon must additionally be included.

On the day of travel, persons with reduced mobility and their companions must be at the station at least 30 minutes before the train departure time. A BRC employee and the head of the respective train transport the passenger to the platform and, using a mobile platform, place him in a specialized carriage. The dispatching station services maintain contact with each other and provide assistance to these persons upon their arrival. The service is provided jointly with “Bulgarian State Railways” EAD and NC “Railway Infrastructure”. The activities of the dispatching station services are fully funded by the Bulgarian Red Cross.
