In connection with the extreme temperatures and the fires, the Bulgarian Red Cross reminds us to be careful and to assess the risks of fire!
When reporting a fire on tel. 112 information is needed for:
- Where? - exact address of the site or some landmark, its type and purpose.
- What? - Describe the type of fire or incident with a risk of fire: the nature of the accident, the size and danger to neighboring buildings and facilities;
- How much? - Are there any endangered people, their number, if possible, indicate the type of injuries and the places where they are located.
- Who is calling? - Say your name and the phone number you are calling from.
YOUR ACTIONS IN A FOREST FIRE :
- Determine the direction of the wind and leave the area that will be within range of the fire.
- Report a fire in the nearest town or forest lodge.
- If you are blocked by fire, look for natural obstacles - clearings, roads, meadows, clearings or other bare places. Use water if there is a river nearby - wet your clothes and body or immerse yourself in it.
- Exposed parts of the body are covered, put a wet towel or cloth in front of your mouth and nose.
- Move bent.
- If the burning area is small, try to put out the fire yourself, using an outer garment or a bundle of hastily broken branches to hit the flames. Limit fire by collecting dry branches and leaves along the path of combustion. Clothes do not come off - they absorb some of the heat.
- In your actions, proceed from the fact that the fire spreads faster in the direction of the wind and on the slope - from the lower parts to the top.
YOUR ACTIONS IN A FIRE IN A BUILDING :
- If you have injured people, call for help immediately.
- Without taking unnecessary personal risks - try to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher or hand tools.
- How to do this with a fire extinguisher :
- Pull out the safety pin;
- Press the lever and direct the jet close to the base of the flames;
- Hold the guide firmly.
- Stop extinguishing the fire if you notice that it is spreading to the top of the room or towards the exit and flee immediately.
- Close the windows and doors of the premises before leaving them.
- Get out quickly without thinking about valuables and money. Don't go back.
- Use evacuation stairs or emergency stairs for evacuation. Never use elevators .
- If you are in an elevator during a fire, stop at the nearest floor and leave.
- If the escape routes are smoky during your evacuation, start moving as low as possible, because the temperature there is lower and visibility is better.
- If it is impossible to leave your home due to smoke or high temperature, go to the bathroom , close the door, put wet towels under the door and wait for the fire department.
- When you are in rooms with many people (theaters, cinemas, gyms, stadiums, shopping malls, etc.) and a fire alarm is given, do the following:
- The most important thing is not to panic and stay calm. Your panic can be transmitted to the people around you;
- follow the evacuation signs and leave the premises without displacing and pushing other people;
- Use the escape routes and exits to leave the premises. Do not jump from heights.
- Do not go back to the building if you have forgotten something.
- Water does not extinguish: electrical appliances, live installations, petrol and oil.
- In case of fire in a building, turn off the gas, electricity, close the doors and windows.
- When passing through smoky space, put a wet towel on your mouth and nose , wet your clothes, cover exposed parts of the body with wet towels. If part of your clothing catches fire, remove the burning garment quickly; if this is not possible, extinguish it by wrapping it in another garment or blanket.
- Toxic gases are especially dangerous when burning plastics . After staying in the area of the fire you must undergo a medical examination.
- In case of carbon monoxide poisoning (CO), the victims are taken out into the fresh air , their clothes are loosened and they are left alone. In the event of a sharp drop in blood pressure, mouth-to-mouth resuscitation is performed. The victims were given warm milk, mineral water, baking soda solution and transported to a hospital.
