International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies notes the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Solferino in a series of events
Solferino Region in Italy, the birth place of the Red Cross idea, collect thousands of young people, representatives of 150 national societies of the Red Cross and Red Crescent from around the world.
Under the motto "Youth on the Move” the attendees will exchange experience focused on global and local challenges such as HIV/AIDS, climate change, migration and discrimination. 200 000 square meters area will form as a camp - so-called Humanitarian Village, which will host several spectacular events:
* Third World Youth Meeting /June, 23-28/. During a series of meetings young people will exchange information and discuss various issues related to climate change, social justice, gender equality, the role of social media, etc. The idea is to recreate Solferino 150 years later.
* Humanitarian Boulevadrd /June, 24-27/. The open air boulevard will feature a series of activities and exhibits.
* Fiaccolata - /June 27/. The torch-lit procession, followingn the footsteps of those who took injured soldiers from the battlefield in Solferino to the first medical center in Castiglione.
* Journey of an Idea and Declaration /June 28 - July 3/. Nearly 300 young red Cross members will travel from Solferino to Geneva, tracing the return path of Henry Dunant, to present their declaration to Swiss autorities, and representatives of the United Nations and international organizations.
Solferino initiatives are organized by the Italian Red Cross within the global campaign of the International Movement "Our World. Your Move."
