The program “COVID-19 Response Activities” has supported socially disadvantaged citizens and disadvantaged children across the country





More than 30,000 socially disadvantaged citizens across the country have been reached and supported by the Bulgarian Red Cross program “COVID-19 Response Activities”, that is financed by USAID. The results of this initiative were presented at a special event, part of the organization’s information campaign “Do it for the ones you love” with special guests H.E. Herro Mustafa, the US Ambassador to Bulgaria, Acad. Hristo Grigorov, Chairman of the Bulgarian Red Cross, and Prof. Dr. Krasimir Gigov, Director General of the Bulgarian Red Cross. They elaborated on the successful partnership so far and the forthcoming public activities in response to the pandemic.


The COVID-19 Response Program is part of the global appeal for assistance to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) announced as a consequence of the pandemic. It is an important part of the ongoing humanitarian activity conducted by the Bulgarian Red Cross in the fight against the pandemic. Thanks to the campaign more than 300 health education and hygiene promotion sessions have been organized so far, more than 30,000 personal hygiene kits and 2500 art kits for kids have been distributed, and hundreds of psychological consultations have been held with citizens across the country. United by the global fight against the pandemic, the Bulgarian Red Cross and USAID continue their successful partnership by opening a virtual dispatch contact center to provide a national toll-free hotline. Additionally, as part of the campaign, online trainings for volunteers and citizens were launched, as well as training of a specialized team of 10 people, part of the National Disaster Response Team. The Bulgarian Red Cross will also start providing free professional psychological consultations. The “Do it for the ones you love” information campaign will continue its goal to emphasize the importance of compliance with anti-epidemic measures and to provide reliable information to Bulgarian citizens while fighting fake news through March 2021.
