The organization provided residents and visitors with valuable and reliable information about the virus and the vaccines
Yesterday, July 19, in the Sea Garden in the city of Burgas, in front of the "Pantheon" monument, the Bulgarian Red Cross organized an event that managed to attract dozens of citizens and guests of the port city and encourage them to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Considering the unpredictability of the virus, its ongoing spread and following strictly its mission to work for the protection of the health and lives of Bulgarian citizens, the organization positioned two mobile vaccination points that were available for most of the day. During the event, all attendees had the opportunity to learn in detail about the Bulgarian Red Cross campaign – "Activities in response to COVID-19", as well as to receive valuable and reliable information about the virus and the vaccines.
Dozens of people of different ages passing through the Sea Garden consulted the specialized medical team that was on site and were successfully immunized against COVID-19. The specially organized event was another step, part of the organization's comprehensive program, which is being implemented with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the appeal of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with the assistance of the Ministry of Health. Through its actions, the Bulgarian Red Cross aims to reach more than 500,000 people with reliable information while directly assisting over 55,000 people across the country.
Dozens of employees and volunteers of the organization gathered in front of the "Pantheon" monument in the Sea Garden in Burgas, the chairman of the Bulgarian Red Cross – acad. Hristo Grigorov and the director of the secretariat of the regional council of the Bulgarian Red Cross, Violeta Radeva. Аcad. Grigorov explained that the campaign of the Bulgarian Red Cross is nation-wide, and the organization has five vaccination points, which it positions in different parts of the country. He added that, "Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Bulgarian Red Cross has stood on the frontline, making continuous efforts, to support the community. Today we are here again to continue this mission. We believe in helping people, not by forcing them to get vaccinated, but by providing them with valuable and reliable information through the national campaign "You Decide!"
"People who get vaccinated fight the virus much more easily and that is a fact. That is why we hope the interest in immunization will continue", said Prof. Dr. Krasimir Gigov, Director General of the Bulgarian Red Cross, during the event. He urged all attendees to get vaccinated and added: "We are noticing that, like any other virus, COVID-19 is gradually losing its strength and our society is becoming more resilient thanks to the creation of collective immunity."
The event was also attended by the mayor of Burgas – Dimitar Nikolov, who expressed his support for the campaign of the Bulgarian Red Cross and shared more information about the future measures that the district plans to introduce to contain the virus. Among the guests was the director of RZI Burgas – Dr. Georgi Pazderov, who commented: "It is good to believe in science, because vaccines really save lives and protect against diseases that can appear after a while and that damage other organs and systems. I sincerely hope that people will start to believe in science and that together we can fight this virus, because it is changing, and it is right that we change as well."
The mobile vaccination points of the Bulgarian Red Cross will continue their work, continuously changing their locations.
