May 8 - World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day.
Dear colleagues, volunteers,

dear red crossers,

partners and like-minded people,

195 years ago today, the creator of the international Red Cross movement and the first winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in the world, Henri Dunant, was born.

On May 8 this year, under the title "Everything we do is from the heart ", more than 300 million people in 192 countries celebrate their holiday - World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day. These people are among the first responders in disasters, crises and armed conflicts, in need of health or social care. These are the people who selflessly help millions of vulnerable and needy people.

Our global network's approach is universal – mobilizing the power of humanity to save lives and alleviate suffering. We are national and international, independent and neutral, united and everything we do is from the heart.

In just a few months, in October 2023, the Bulgarian Red Cross will celebrate 145 years since its establishment . For 145 years, thousands of worthy Bulgarians, who stood behind the organization's ideas and principles, have built its authority before the Bulgarian society. But what will future historians remember from our time? That millions of people face pain and suffering, hunger and disease; have been affected by armed conflicts; that their homes, hospitals, and schools were destroyed, cities collapsed, and millions of men, women, and children forced from their homes? In the troubled times we live in, we are witnessing an endless series of humanitarian crises, and fundamental values are being severely tested.

Today is the day we predetermine the future of our children and grandchildren. Therefore, on World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, we celebrate the spirit of humanity and give well-deserved recognition to people who change the world around them, give their time, heart and soul to others, inspire them and encourage them to work for a better future.

Since its inception, the Bulgarian Red Cross has been a pillar of society and the state, and our backbone is the thousands of volunteers. There is no more vivid and impressive embodiment of the founding principles of the Red Cross. Appreciation and gratitude for them too.

We also extend our thanks to all members, employees, donors and partners. Thank you for your responsibility, kindness, mercy and nobility. Without you, we would not be able to help fully and be so strong. And we are strong because we are together!

Happy holidays!
