
The complicated situation with heavy rains and floods in many places in North-West Bulgaria continues. Since the beginning of the crisis, the Bulgarian Red Cross has been in constant contact with its local structures, which are in continuous communication with the responsible institutions in the affected municipalities - regional administrations, mayors, PBZN, partners. Representatives of the BRC from the first hours are on the ground and provide help and assistance to those affected by the floods in the regions of Montana, Vidin, Vratsa and Sofia region. The damage is assessed and the necessities are provided.
Mineral water, refreshments, and cleaning products were distributed from the reserve of the regional councils of the BCK for disasters. As a result of site inspections in all affected areas and damage assessment, the BRC immediately provided 500 liters of water to three kindergartens in Etropole.
Five tons of cleaning, laundry and detergent preparations, disinfectants, as well as clothes from the Central Reserve have been provided through the Regional Council of the Black People's Committee in Montana to Berkovitsa and other affected settlements. BCHK representatives and volunteers are on site and on Friday cleaning and hygiene materials were distributed to over 50 families. Constant contact is maintained with local authorities, mayors and the Directorate of Social Assistance to determine the needs of flood victims according to needs assessment.
Bedding, blankets and clothes were provided for the village of Liljace in the Vratsa district.
The Chief Secretary of the BRC Sofia Stoimenova and the chief expert in the Disaster Management Directorate at the Secretariat of the National Council of the BRC Lyubomir Karakanovski visited the most affected areas together with the Minister of Labor and Social Policy Ivanka Shalapatova. Gratitude was expressed for the immediate support and for the activities carried out on the spot by the BRC. Minister Shalapatova emphasized that the actions of the representatives of the BRC to provide emotional and psychosocial support to the victims are highly appreciated.
Field activities continue. The BRC is monitoring the situation and, if necessary, is ready to mobilize additional resources from its disaster reserve to help those most in need.
