The Bulgarian Red Cross is starting a fundraiser to support the population in Bosnia and Herzegovina affected by the catastrophic floods on October 4, 2024.

On the night of October 4, 2024, a series of flash floods hit five municipalities in Bosnia and Herzegovina: Jablanica, Konić, Kreševo, Fojnica and Kiseljak. In addition to severe flooding, the municipality of Jablanica was further affected by an earthquake, which added to the already devastated region.

The situation is extremely serious, at least 18 people have lost their lives, 12 people remain missing, 50 are displaced persons, and the total number of those affected exceeds 5,000 people. These figures are not final, as several municipalities remain isolated and cut off from rescue efforts and communication due to destruction of critical infrastructure. The lack of telephone and internet connections further complicates coordination and rescue efforts. The situation remains unstable while rescue operations continue and updated information is awaited.

The Red Cross of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been helping the affected population since the first hours of the disaster, helping more than 500 people so far. The population of the country is worried about the great material damage and the additional threat to the life and health of the residents of the affected place.

The Bulgarian Red Cross expresses its sympathy and calls on all people for solidarity and help with the population of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the efforts of the Red Cross there. Anyone who wishes to help can do so by donating to the special bank account opened in BGN:

Account holder: Bulgarian Red Cross
