Active senior citizens for Europe

Although senior citizens have witnessed the creation of the European Union and its deployment in an area of freedom, security and justice, few are fully aware of what the EU is doing to promote and enforce their rights and transform our common goals into concrete results for citizens in all Member States.

In order to help senior citizens across Europe, and in Bulgaria in particular, to understand how the EU works, what problems an aging Europe poses and how older people can contribute to making Europe a better place to live, work and work. and getting older, the Bulgarian Red Cross has joined an international project entitled "Active Senior Citizens for Europe".

The project is managed by the European Platform for the Elderly AGE , of which the Bulgarian Red Cross has been a full member since 2009, and the activities are carried out simultaneously in eight EU countries, including Bulgaria.

The project started on September 1, 2013 and lasts 16 months.

The main activities include:
  • Translation, printing and distribution of an information brochure developed by the European Platform for the Elderly AGE on the rights of older people in the EU;
  • Training of active older people in each of the partner countries on their rights as EU citizens;
  • Closing conference in the European Parliament with the participation of adult volunteers from the project partner countries;
  • Presentation of the methodology and the training module created within the project.

The project is funded by the European Commission under the Europe for Citizens program.
