BULGARIAN RED CROSS LAUNCHES NATIONAL CHARITY CAMPAIGN
to assure homes for the victims of the earthquake in the region of Pernik
Bulgarian Red Cross announced the start of the national charity campaign for assuring homes for the most affected victims of the earthquake in the region of Pernik. The campaign will be held from 11 September till 11 October 2012. It aims to support the efforts of the governmental and local authorities to overcome the consequences of the earthquake. Facing the nearing winter, with the raised of the campaign funds will be built precast wooden houses for the homeless people in the region.
In the press-conference took participation Hristo Grigorov, President of the BRC; Tomislav Donchev, Minister of the European Funding operation; Leon Prop, Director of the European Office of the Red Cross; Rossen Yordanov, Deputy Mayer of Pernik; Plamen Aleksiev, Mayor of Radomir; Luben Panov, Bulgarian Center for Not-For-Profit Law; Tsvetan Simeonov, President of the Bulgarian Trade Chamber of Commerce.
Minister Donchev informed about the situation in the region of Pernik and the necessity to react promptly to unite the whole society in support of the homeless people. He supported the campaign on behalf of the government.
Mr. Jordanov shared last data about the situation in the region and the future intends of the government and the local authority for rebuilding.
The Municipality of Pernik has received 8 507 applications for support, and 12 000 are the applications for one-time aid of 325 BGN. 163 buildings are the subject of destruction. On the session of 27 August 2012 was taken decision to make an allocation in the budget for these buildings at the amount of 411 142 BGN.
412 people are accommodated in 89 tents , and 159 more in 47 caravans.
The one-time aid in response of 6 078 applications is 1 950 000 BGN (325 BGN for person).
The raised funds from the charity campaign of the municipality are 170 000 BGN.
On the session of 5 September 2012 was taken decision for giving support for reconstructions of 40 cases of citizens with serious damages of their homes.
„The good results of the previous campaign for Bisser give us hope that the aims of the present campaign for Pernik will me met. We must help the most vulnerable people in the region of Pernik to meet the winter with dignity”, said the President of the BRC, Mr. Hristo Grigorov. He added that the organization is relying on the well-known methods for fundraising. The three mobile operators activated the short number 1255 for sms.

In conclusion Hristo Grigorov appealed to His Holiness, Patriarch Maxim to bless the campaign and the church to support it.
The funds will be raised also through direct mailing to the bigger business structures, in partnership of the Bulgarian Trade Chamber of Commerce, as the President of the Trade Chamber, Mr. Tsvetan Simeonov promised.
Luben Panov from Bulgarian Center for Not-For-Profit Law informed that at the moment volunteers are raised for reconstructions and rebuilding work in the region of Pernik.
