Bulgarian Red Cross launches a campaign to help the victims of the floods in Bulgaria
Immediately after the floods in Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Red Cross announced a bank account for raising funds to support the victims of the disaster. With the cooperation of the three mobile operators in the country the short number 1466 for text message donations has also been activated.
The victims of the floods in Varna, Dobrich and Veliko Turnovo received mineral water, refreshing drinks, food and other essential products from the disaster reserve of the organization – blankets, pillows and bedding sets. Volunteer psychologists have been helping the victims with the recoverement from the psychological trauma caused by the floods. Thousands of people and corporations answered to the appeal of the Bulgarian Red Cross. More than 1000 volunteers participated in the cleaning of the victims’ homes in Varna.

The European commissioner Kristalina Georgieva visited Varna in order to estimate the damages of the disaster. Kristalina Georgieva met the President of BRC Mr. Hristo Grigorov and the Head of the BRC Regional council in Varna Mr. Ilko Raev. They discussed the most efficient ways to cope with the difficult situation and expressed their gratitude to all of the volunteers willing to help the people affected by the floods.
