World Mental Health Day

On October 10, we celebrate the World Mental Health Day , which this year goes under the motto "Mental health is a universal human right ". The Day was celebrated for the first time in 1992, at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health and aims to increase public awareness of the importance of mental health, as well as the fight against the stigmatization of mental illnesses.

The Bulgarian Red Cross has been providing psychological first aid and psychosocial support to vulnerable groups since 1999. The organization continues to develop its capacity in the direction of increasing the qualifications of its volunteers to provide quality and timely psychosocial support to vulnerable groups. Thousands of volunteers have been trained, teams of professionals have been created to provide psychological first aid and psychosocial support, trained according to the methodology of the IFRC .

Providing effective psychosocial support and mental health programs at an early stage in humanitarian emergencies is one of the most important activities to reduce the lasting suffering of the population, and the BRC has been actively working in this direction for more than 24 years. A Contact Center for psychosocial and psychological support has been opened, and by calling 080011466, anyone in need can receive free professional help provided by trained professionals. More than 100 psychologists, volunteers of the organization, are among the most vulnerable persons in case of disasters and crises of different nature.

The Bulgarian Red Cross celebrates World Mental Health Day in Sofia and the country with various initiatives that will present the organization's activities in this direction.
